Yep.  It is rainy season here in Antigua Guatemala again! … But what does that mean?  I see questions posted by people all the time asking what the weather in Guatemala is like. They want to know if they need an umbrella, poncho or possibly a row boat.

Rainy season in Guatemala runs from May through October and sometimes a little into November.  It is pretty consistent to the point that residents of Guatemala will deny it is really raining if the calendar says it is still April!  However, once rainy season arrives it is a safe bet that it will rain nearly every day.  Have no fear though, all these clouds do have silver linings. First, mornings are usually clear without a cloud in sight. Clouds roll in around noon with precipitation for a few hours in the afternoon.  The amount of precipitation varies, but for the most part an umbrella or poncho is sufficient.  Additionally, even though it usually rains every day there are many days where it does not rain at all.  According to many visitors a real benefit of rainy season is the fact that there are fewer tourists!  Residents tend to like the fact that rainy season cleans everything off.

Rainy season in Guatemala, is it wet?  Yes.  Should you bring something like an umbrella?  Probably.  In the end though, this is Antigua Guatemala, home of Eternal Spring.  It might be raining, but it will not ruin your trip.  It is not hot enough to make it uncomfortably muggy and the rain will not cool things off too much to make it cold.

The best plan is to find a nice place to spend the rainy parts of the afternoon; a museum, a café, a movie or any one of our attractions here in Antigua.  Come, have a good time, and stop worrying about the rain!!
